Probation Period

All new members, Air and Rimfire, will be required to complete a 12-week probationary period, unless they hold a current Firearms Certificate or have been in the Armed Services, in which case we will discuss with them individual details.

Probationary members will undergo a programme of training over a three-month period to satisfy both the club and, in the case of those applying for membership of the Rimfire sections, the Home Office criteria for becoming a full member.

All probationary members will be supervised by a mentor at all times during their probationary period, until such time as their mentor considers them safe to shoot on their own. The mentor will inform the Discipline Manager of their assessment, and the Discipline Manager, having satisfied themselves that the probationary member is safe to shoot, will enter their agreement on the Probationer's Attendance Sheet.

The probationary member must have successfully undertaken the following and have been recorded on their probationary sheet:

All training necessary to be able to shoot safely

The Range Safety Awareness Course (RSAC)

Attended at least one visit on a “Maintenance Day”
